BECi Directors Elected at Annual Meeting

DeRidder – In lieu of the Beauregard Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BECi) Annual Membership Meeting, postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, BECi announced its board of director election results on Monday, March 30, via the cooperative’s Facebook page and website.

Donald R. Bush

Donald R. Bush, District One Director and resident of Pickering, was re-elected without opposition. Bush, a retired school administrator, and teacher, has served on the BECi Board in District One since 1989. He is a member of the Pickering Lodge #477, Cooper Baptist Church, and is a 32nd degree Scottish Rite and Shriner. Mr. Bush has also served as a board member, president, and vice president on the West Louisiana Forestry Festival Fair Board. Bush is a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Credentialed Cooperative Director and has an NRECA Board Leadership Certification.

J.R. Hickman

Incumbent Director, J.R. Hickman, was re-elected to represent District Three. A resident of DeRidder, Hickman has served on the BECi Board in District Three since 1993. Hickman is a retired educator with 33 years of teaching experience and hails from a Beauregard Parish Pioneer Family and is a member of Grace Church, the Beauregard Parish Fair Board, an NRECA Credentialed Cooperative Director, a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, and currently serves as president of the Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives (ALEC).

Tommy Cryar

Candidate Tommy Cryar was elected to represent District Nine, receiving 383 votes, defeating incumbent L.W. “Peto” Sellers, who received 332 votes. Cryar, a resident of Moss Bluff, is a real estate investor. He is a graduate of Sam Houston High School. Cryar is also a member of First Baptist Church of Gillis and the Executive Director of the Independent Builders Association.

The three directors officially began serving three-year terms on Saturday, during what would have been the cooperative’s regularly scheduled meeting.
