CONTEST RULES:

1. High School sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to enter.

2. Students must write a formal letter of approximately 300-400 words to any official. Students, this is the perfect opportunity to voice your personal opinion to your elected or appointed officials on any issue, problem or success. In the letter, the topic of concern should be stated and thoroughly discussed. The letter should be addressed to the respective local, state or federal official in formal letter format. Please do not sign the letter or place your name in the letter. Your name should only be listed on the cover sheet. Please have the letter available by email, if possible. Obscene or offensive material will not be accepted and will automatically be disqualified. Good luck to all and have fun writing!

3. Letter must be written in ink or typed.

4. A cover sheet must be attached containing the following information:

a. Name, Address, Phone Number, Age, E-mail Address, Grade
b. Parent’s or Guardian’s Name
c. School’s Name, Address, and Phone Number
d. Sponsoring Teacher’s Name

5. Entries are to be delivered or mailed to:

6. The due date is Friday, February 5, 2010. Entries received after the due date will not be judged. Papers entered will become the property of BECi and not returned.

Winners will be announced Friday, March 5, 2010.

JUDGING - Entries will be judged on originality, composition, neatness and grammar. Four all-expense paid trips will be awarded. Winners will travel to our Nation’s Capitol to join 1,400 other young people sponsored by the Rural Electrification Program.
