DeRidder, LA –– As of 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008, Beauregard Electric has restored power to all but 6,564 of its more than 38,000 members who lost electric service during Hurricane Gustav. At the height of the storm, more than 15,000 members experienced a power outage due to high winds, downed trees, limbs and utility lines. Of those 6,500 members that remain without power, 5,200 members are affected by damaged transmission lines. Those members live in the Oberlin, Pitkin, Sugartown, Elizabeth, and Glenmora areas. The five substations that serve those areas are ready to take power once Cleco is able to restore the high voltage transmission lines that feed them.

- Beauregard Parish 750
- Calcasieu Parish 100
- Evangeline Parish 53
- Rapides Parish 1,145
- Vernon Parish 2,028
- Total Outages 6,564
BECi anticipates there will be members that will remain without power throughout the night. BECi is utilizing all of its crews and local contractors, and has recruited additional crews from Texas.
