DeRidder— Early morning intense storms blew through the Southwest Louisiana Sunday knocking out power to nearly 10,000 BECi members from its seven-parish service territory. Crews worked throughout the day to restore power even as additional storms continued to move through sometimes repeating damage to an already affected area. The majority of damage was caused by lightning, downed poles and lines, and limbs on lines.
BECi crews, local contract crews and crews from Washington-St. Tammany Cooperative based out of Franklinton, LA, restored power to all but 100 members by 4:00 am Monday morning. Crews continued working throughout the night and will work to restore power today, Monday, August 4, 2008.
“Our main concern is the safety of the public and our employees,” said Kay Fox, Vice President of Marketing and Member Services. “Please avoid all downed power lines and assume that lines are energized. If you see any damaged lines, we ask that you stay away from the area and call our office immediately.”
