| DeRidder—The results of the Beauregard Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BECi) director elections were announced Saturday during the BECi Annual Meeting at co-op headquarters in DeRidder.
Ray Hauser, District Six Incumbent Director, was re-elected without opposition. Hauser, a farmer and nurseryman from the Longville area, has represented the cooperative for the past 21 years. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeRidder and is president of the Beauregard Parish Fair Board. Hauser serves as the vice president of the South Beauregard Water Board and is a board member of the Beauregard Parish Farm Bureau.
Incumbent director, Teddy Welch, was re-elected to represent District Five for a seventh term. Welch, receiving 525 votes, defeated fellow candidate Phil Rider of Oakdale who received 243 votes. Welch is a resident of Sugartown and is a retired teacher and principal from the Beauregard Parish School System. He is a member of the Sugartown Baptist Church and is a member of the Beauregard Parish and Louisiana Cattleman’s Associations.
District Eight incumbent director, Terry Backhaus, CFP, was re-elected without opposition to represent his district for a second term. Backhaus, a certified financial planner from Sulphur, is a member of the West Calcasieu Hospital Foundation Board, past-president of Olin Employees Federal Credit Union, has served as loan chairman of the Louisiana Corporate Credit Union Committee and is a member of the Sulphur Rotary Club. Backhaus, a league soccer coach and member of the Sulphur Parks and Recreation Association is past-president of the Sulphur High School Soccer Boosters Club.
The three directors officially began serving a three-year term at Saturday’s annual meeting.
