Beauregard Electric announces rebate for many of its members
Credits to come on August bills
DeRidder, LA - At the August board meeting, Beauregard Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BECi) General Manager Mike Pigott announced that qualified BECi members would be among Louisiana electric cooperative consumers who will receive a credit on their August electric bills. BECi estimates that $1.87 million will be returned to members in the form of a credit on their bills and will average about $50 for residential members using 1,300 kilowatt hours of power per month.
The rebate stems from a plan established by the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) in 2000 that closed the five-year bankruptcy case of BECi’s former wholesale power supplier, Cajun Electric. The first installment occurred as a cash refund to consumers in 2000, and the second payment was a credit made in August 2002. While most members will see a final credit listed on their August bill, those who were not BECi members during the period the escrow account was accumulating interest (April 1, 1999 to March 31, 2000) will not be included. In some cases, accounts may have been in the names of deceased relatives, former spouses or a landlord. State law is very specific that credits must be made payable to the account holder.
According to the LPSC, the Credit breakdown for qualified members is below:
- Credit on August BECi electric bills
-
Must have been an active member during April 1, 1999 to March 31, 2000
-
Credits to current accounts only; no checks will be issued
