DIRECTORS ELECTED

DeRidder, Louisiana -- The results of the Beauregard Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BECi) director elections were announced Tuesday at co-op headquarters in DeRidder.

In District Two, Dale Peterson was elected without opposition to serve the remaining two years of a three-year term that began March 2003. Peterson was appointed to the board to fill the vacancy that occurred in April 2003. He is a resident of Rosepine and a pharmacist. Peterson owned and operated the Rosepine Family Pharmacy, Inc. for the past 18 years and is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeRidder. He has coached Dixie Youth Baseball for the past 12 years and Optimist Basketball for the past five years. He is a fellow of American Society of Consulting Pharmacists.

Incumbent director, Teddy Welch, was re-elected to represent District Five for a sixth term. Welch, receiving 607 votes, defeated fellow candidate Tim Deason of Pitkin, who received 473 votes. Welch is a resident of Sugartown and is retired from the Beauregard Parish School System. He is an active member of the Sugartown Baptist Church and the Beauregard Parish Cattlemen’s Association.

Ray Hauser of the Longville area, BECi's incumbent director in District Six, defeated Earl Franks of Merryville. Hauser received 597 votes while Franks received 234 votes. Hauser is a farmer and nurseryman and has served as a BECi director for 18 years. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeRidder, President of the Beauregard Parish Fair Association, and a board member of the Beauregard Parish Farm Bureau and the South Beauregard Water District.

Terry D. Backhaus, CFP, was elected to represent co-op District Eight. Backhaus, receiving 462 votes, defeated incumbent director Ruth Shepherd who received 393 votes. Backhaus, a certified financial planner from Sulphur, is a past-president of Olin Employees Federal Credit Union, has served as loan chairman of the La. Corporate Credit Union and is a member of the Sulphur Rotary Club. He is president of the Sulphur Soccer Boosters and a soccer coach for the Sulphur Parks & Recreation (SPAR).

The four directors will officially take their seats at the co-op's annual meeting Saturday, March 27, at the DeRidder office.
